WSET SPIRITS COURSES
We offer WSET spirits courses for spirits enthusiasts, with a key focus on those within the cocktail and spirits industry. For those working in the industry with some background in spirits, the Level 1 Award is not a prerequisite to enrolling on the Level 2 or 3 Awards.
WSET Spirits Level 1 Award
AN 8 HOUR INTRODUCTION TO SPIRITS, USUALLY DELIVERED OVER ONE DAY.
By the end of the course attendees will be able to:
- List and state the main ingredient’s production processes, and stills commonly used in the production of spirits
- Name the principal categories and types of spirits and name their defining characteristics
- Know and recognise the common equipment and principles involved in the storage and service of spirits
WSET Spirits Level 2 Award
15 HOURS OF TUTOR SUPERVISED LEARNING, AS WELL AS 11 HOURS PRIVATE STUDY.
By the end of the course attendees will be able to:
- Understand the main production factors that determine types of spirits
- Understand how the principal types of spirits are produced and labelled, and describe their key characteristics
- Understand how the principle types of flavoured spirits and aromatised wines are produced and labelled, and describe their key characteristics
- Know the common equipment used and the principles involved with the service of spirits
WSET Spirits Level 3 Award
30 HOURS OF SUPERVISED LEARNING, AS WELL AS 52 HOURS OF PRIVATE STUDY.
By the end of the course attendees will be able to:
- Acquire a deep theoretical understanding of the techniques used in spirit production, from the processing of the raw materials to post-distillation operations.
- Through a combination of tasting and application of theoretical knowledge you will learn to explain confidently why spirits look and taste the way they do and how and why they differ from each other.
Upon booking a course you will receive your textbook in the post with a lovely TMC tote, two TMC tasting glasses, and a Blackwing pencil. For online courses in the week preceding the class dates you will receive a box of spirit samples (30 or 60 depending on the level), and during the course will benefit from exclusive study materials developed by The Mixing Class, including an app of quizzes and games to help get you exam ready.
BAR AND COCKTAIL INDUSTRY EDUCATION
As well as our WSET courses we also provide additional qualifications and training for those working within the bar and cocktail industry.
BIAAB personal licence level 2
WE TEACH THIS COURSE ONLINE IN REAL TIME OVER TWO HALF DAYS. THE EXAM CAN BE SAT AT THE END OF THE SECOND SESSION.
By the end of the course attendees will be able to:
- Understand their roles and responsibilities as a Personal Licence holder
- Apply with their local authority for a Personal Licence, valid within England and Wales
Leading the Bar: Bar Management and Team Leadership course
5 DAYS OF TUTOR SUPERVISED LEARNING. THIS COURSE WILL ENTAIL CLASSROOM SESSIONS, EXERCISES, Q&AS WITH INDUSTRY LEADERS, AND WORKSHOPS THAT WILL ALL FOCUS ON THE KEY SKILLS OF BAR MANAGEMENT.
By the end of the course attendees will be able to:
- Demonstrated an understanding of the key attributes of a successful team leader
- Learned and practiced methods of communication and conflict resolution for the hospitality sector
- Learned methods for proper stock control
- How to calculate labour cost and write a rota accordingly
- How to author and cost a commercially successful drinks list
